Why Become a Coach?
The
Love of Gymnastics:
Many
decide to coach gymnastics purely due to the love of the sport. This
does not necessarily mean you have to be or have been a gymnast yourself.
Many coaches are parents of gymnasts who go on to volunteer at their
childs club. For them becoming a coach is taking the next
step. It's about surrounding yourself with other coaches and budding
gymnasts, it's playing a major role in spreading the awareness of
gymnastics, and its working in an environment that you just love.
An
Opportunity to Develop Teaching Skills:
Becoming
a coach can be a career in itself if you decide to do it full time.
Most will be aware of the current shortage of coaches in Northern
Ireland. GNI are confident that the sport will thrive more than ever
over
the next few years. More courses are being run, more clubs are opening
and as a result there will be an even bigger need for qualified coaches.
Can you imagine the sheer feeling of satisfaction having coached
a gymnast
from the very first stages, and watching them progress, perhaps even
going on to compete? It truly is a rewarding position.
Lifestyle:
Becoming
a gymnastics coach is obviously a physical activity. Of course no
one is suggesting you need to perform any moves yourself but it still
counts towards ensuring you have an action packed lifestyle. You
become part of a sporting, and thus healthier world.
Fun:
There
is so much fun to be had in coaching gymnastics. You will develop
the ability to get the most out of gymnasts but maintain the fun
element at the same time.
Helping
the Community:
It's
obviously not all about working with elite athletes. Like all sports,
gymnastics can be used as a tool to delvelop communities and combat
anti-social behaviour. Coaches learn much more than just spotting
the moves, they learn to help the gymnasts develop in an emotional
capacity
too.
