Brief
History of NIAGA
The Sport of Gymnastics was first established in 1895
with the formation of the Ulster Gymnastics Association (UGA). In 1981
the UGA changed its name to Northern Ireland Amateur Gymnastndics Association
(NIAGA). The name was changed again in 2007 to Gymnastics Northern Ireland
(GNI) This comprises the counties of Antrim, Armagh, Down, Londonderry,
Tyrone and Fermanagh with a total population of 1.68 million

Strategic Plans 2006-2009
The governing body is currently taking a pro-active
approach to modernise effectively and there will be many dynamic changes
happening across the organisation over the next couple of years. As
a matter of urgency we will be reviewing our structure and implementing
efficient governance procedures to ensure that the sport can run effectively
throughout the country.
These are exciting times for all to become more pro-active in driving gymnastics
forward in Northern Ireland. I therefore urge you to communicate to everybody
that we are changing and take advantage of all the opportunities that will
be available in the future. Communication and change are seen as key to our
future success and we appreciate your feedback as, after all, we are here to
assist you in developing your club and gymnastics.
Please find below, a link to our new strategic framework and operational plans
which detail where we want the NIAGA to be.
Obviously, in order to achieve our vision we require everybody involved in
gymnastics to share it, and co-operate with the governing body in all our objectives.
We hope that you share this view and we appreciate your patience and dedication
in moving gymnastics forward.
