Six Steps to becomming a Gymnastics Coach...

How
Check the course calendar, Download an application form, complete and return to GNI office with your cheque
This is Day 1 of your course and focuses on the theory aspect
This is Day 1 of your course and focuses on the theory aspect
Source a mentor and get some practice at coaching under their supervision, while completing your logbook which you will be given on the course.
You will be notified of your assessment timeslot 2 - 4 weeks prior to assessment date depending on which level your course is.

This session usually lasts approximately 6 hours
12 hours minimum, this is usually done over two days and is at least one week after the Common Core day.
Mentoring hours required vary form 6 to 16 depending on the discipline and level. Your tutor will advise on the day of the course.
Timeslots usually last between 1 and 2 hours for your assessment.
Once your assessor notifies BG you have passed the course
Notes**

All those who attend our courses need to be a member of British Gymanstics. This membership fee is not included in our course fees. You can contact BG directly to sort this or alternatively you can complete the membership form on day one of your course. All Candidates also have to undergo a police check if they have not had one within the past 3 years with GNI. There is a £5 fee for this service and it is not included in course fees.

If you have already attended a common core session at the SAME level then you will not need to attend this session. Unfortunately there are no discounts for those who do not need to do it.
Please be aware you will be undergoing physical activity throughout this session and should wear suitable clothing. You may be required to bring gymnasts, please check with GNI office
Logbooks should be returned to GNI office for the assessor to collect and mark 2 weeks prior to assessment date.
Assessment dates are given in the 'Click here for more info' box relevant to the course you are interested in. You will be required to bring 2-3 gymnasts with you.
If you do not complete the Access NI form it will hold up your qualification

Course Title  
Coaching Methods and Communications: OVERVIEW
Unlock and develop your communication skills to build and maintain a positive and effective coach/player relationship. Learn the principles of good communication and coaching styles and how to use them to meet the needs of your performers.
  OUTCOMES
By the end of this workshop, coaches should be able to:
*Identify and explain their own coaching style; *Assess their own communication skills; *Action plan to increase their effectiveness; *Build and maintain good relationships
Child Protection Awareness: OVERVIEW
This workshop aims to raise awareness about Child Protection issues in sport and introduces participants to the Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children’s Sport. All adults involved in children’s sport should attend, but it is particularly recommended for Coaches, Leaders, Administrators and Officials.
 

OUTCOMES
By the end of this workshop, coaches should be able to:
*Understand the principles of the Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children’s Sport;*Identify good practice in sports coaching;*Develop codes of conduct for everyone involved in sport;*Understand the different categories of child abuse and be able to identify signs of abuse;*Act appropriately of abuse is suspected; *Recommended for all coaches and volunteers

Designated Officer Training OVERVIEW
This workshop is aimed primarily at Children’s Officers within sports clubs and
governing bodies of sport. The training will assist them in their role of
protecting children in sport.
  OUTCOMES
The workshop objectives are to:
*Understand the implications and recommendations of the Code for children’s sport; *Identify the roles & responsibilities of key personnel in the protection of children in sport; *Understand the legal basis for child protection in sport; *Audit current practice and action plan to meet the recommendations laid out in the Code;*Plan for the implementation and monitoring of the action plans, new policies and procedures;*Examine a range of potential situations which may give grounds for concern and explore possible outcomes; *Demonstrate an understanding of the specific processes involved with disclosure; *Access information regarding training, materials and resources for child protection, and have an action plan for disseminating this information; *Recommended for All Coaches, participants must already have completed the CP Awareness training.
Equity Workshop OVERVIEW
Equity in your Sport explores the diversity of participation in sport in Northern Ireland. The training identifies key themes associated with participation in sport, and examine the role of sport in contributing towards a more inclusive society.
 

OUTCOMES
The workshop objectives are to:
*Increase awareness of the diversity of sport in Northern Ireland; *Raise awareness among participants of how politics has impacted on sport internationally; *Allow participants to begin to identify the role of sport in contributing towards a more inclusive society; *Recommended for Coaches, Leaders, Administrators and Officials.

Coaching Children and Young People OVERVIEW
Discover the needs and motivation of young players. Learn how to deliver
effective coaching sessions to meet the level of skill, developmental stage and
motivation of each young player
 

OUTCOMES By the end of this workshop, coaches should be able to:
*Identify why children and young people are a special case; *Explain why children and young people take part in sport; *Identify why children and young people take part in sport and how to plan
and deliver sessions to meet their needs;*Ensure that coaching reflects the developmental stage of children and young people;*Plan and deliver coaching sessions to maximize learning and enjoyment; *Follow good practice when coaching children and young people; *Recommended for all sports coaches

Goal Setting And planning

OVERVIEW
Help your players set targets and learn how to plan a training programme to meet their needs.
OUTCOMES
By the end of this workshop, coaches should be able to:Describe the processes involved in effective planning; *Generate appropriate information on the demands of their sport and training
needs of their performers; *Explain and apply the adaptation process; *Divide the year into training phases of different emphasis; *Integrate all elements of performance into individual training programmes; *Explain the importance of monitoring and evaluating performance in the
context of an overall plan,*Recommended for all sports coaches
